Elimination of Toxins and Detoxification

A toxin is any substance that causes harmful effects to our body if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.  It interferes with normal cellular function and causes cells to malfunction.

Today, we are living in a chemically based society where almost everything is laced with toxins.  Sources of toxic substances can range from naturally occurring toxins like bacteria to man-made chemicals like pesticides, even the food we eat contain toxins.

Although your daily exposure to each toxin maybe small, the problem is that you are constantly being exposed to small amounts of the thousands of toxins, and over time the exposure and accumulation of toxins can become significant and may work synergistically to magnify the adverse effects.

There is indeed an increasing concern on human exposure to environmental toxins especially in the light of the growing body of research documenting established and suspected environmental factors linked to genetic, immune, and endocrine dysfunction that can eventually lead to cancer, infertility, immune system degradation and other degenerative diseases.

Unfortunately, many people are still unaware and oblivious of the danger of these toxins.

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE GET SICK AND SOME PEOPLE DON'T?
Essentially, there are two factors that influence the toxic load in your body and the impact this has on your health.  These are:
  1. the amount and type of toxin that you are exposed to; and
  2. how well your body 'detoxify' or getting rid of this toxin.
That is why two people with similar toxic exposure can respond very differently, with one having no noticeable effects and the other developing chronic illness. The first person has a better capacity to detoxify and eliminate the toxins.

Hence, you should strive to avoid as much toxin exposure and eliminate as many toxins as possible (both internal and external) from your lives.

What are the sources of toxins?

Listed below are just a few examples of the toxins in our world today:

  • x   Pollution – in the air and water
  • x   Non-stick chemicals – non-stick cookware, stain resistant fabrics
  • x   Xenoestrogens – insecticides, lubricants, adhesives, paints, personal care products, food coloring (red dye no. 3),         weed killer, sunscreen lotion
  • x   Human growth hormones fed to cows to increase milk production
  • x   Plastics – phthalates found in containers, water bottles, baggies
  • x   Food – pesticides on fruit and vegetables, processed foods, refined oils
  • x   Drinking water – chlorine, heavy metals, chloroform, etc.
  • x   Personal care products – anti-bacterial soap, perfumes, creams, shampoos, lotions and other similar products have       a range of toxins like artificial fragrance, benzaldehyde, benzalkonium chloride and sodium laureth sulfate
  • x   Amalgam dental fillings (source of mercury) and dental sealants
  • x   Household cleaners
  • x   Stress all day?  These are the endotoxins
  • x   the list goes on .....
Long-term exposure to toxins such as environmental pollutants, cancer-causing chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, heavy metals, and STRESS affects many functions in your body such as your metabolism, behavior, immune system and through prolong exposure leads to disease. These toxins are stored in tissues and cells throughout the body, including the brain.
